The Location of Kirkby Thore Hall

 

Kirkby Thore Hall is half a mile from the A66 between Penrith and Appleby/Brough and Scotch Corner.

If coming from the north. Take the A66 east towards Brough and Scotch Corner. 8 miles from Penrith you will enter Kirkby Thore which is a 40mph zone. After the flashing 40 mph sign and the parked hire vans on the left, turn immediately left at the sign marked Gypsum Works, Newbiggin, Milburn and Knock. It is called Main Street.

Driveway to Kirkby Thore HallIf you are coming from the south and Scotch Corner direction, 5 miles after Appleby you will enter the 40mph zone and Kirkby Thore. Pass the filling station and Bridge End Farm on the left, (black and white house). After approximately 20 yards, turn right heading for Gypsum Works, Newbiggin, Milburn and Knock. It is called Main Street.

Now from either direction, follow the road up the village for over quarter of a mile. You will pass the village shop on the left and then the Village Hall. After another 100 yards and exactly half a mile from the main road, turn right onto Kirkby Thore Hall drive. There are 2 white stones at the entrance and the house name is engraved in sandstone on the entrance wall on the left. The entrance is opposite Banker House. You will cross a cattle grid. The drive is between an avenue of trees.

If you see Town Head Garth, the sign for Kirkby Thore Plant/Fell Lane or Sleasonhowe Lane you have gone too far and missed the turning.
